Dr. Olivia Thompson Green has been a Resident of Los Angeles
for the past 52 years. Dr. Green Graduated from Los
Angeles High, and continued her studies at Los Angeles Trade
Technical College, where she earned an Associate of Arts
Degree. She quickly built on that success by moving forward
from there into a Full Tuition Scholarship to USC, vaulting
her into the beginning Understudy arena of her aggressive
Educational Goals.
Dr. Green’s advocacy historically reaches back to her early
days LA Trade-Tech, and further. As a Student she
attended the State of California’s Democratic Conventions, and
served as 1st Vice President in the LATTC Democratic
Club. During those Politically tumultuous time in
College, Dr. Green participated in Protests to ensure the
appointment of Thomas L. Stevens as the first Black President
of Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and was given the
Honor of performing in Dance Performance at President Steven’s
Inaugural Ball.
Since June of 1982, Dr. Green has opened her home to provide
competent, affordable Family Child Care, to her surrounding
Community and Neighborhood, and this year will celebrate her
30th year of Service. Dr. Green has completed and
earned her "Certificates of Completion in Early Childhood
Education" from Southwest Community College, with additional
Minor in Administrative Classes, from West LA Community
College.
Dr. Green has earned and currently maintains her Child
Development Associated (CDA) Credential. She is currently
enrolled at California State University, Los Angeles, forging
ahead to complete her first BS degree in Early Childhood
Education.
In 1993, Dr. Green Founded and still serves today, as the
Leader and CEO of "Families Working Together Inc." (FWT), a
Child Care Center and Family Support Services...
FWT is a Non-Profit, Community based, Service Organization.
Past and present services are Afterschool and School-break
Youth Programs, Food Distribution, Parenting and Marriage
Counseling Classes. In 2002, FWT opened its first
Shelter for Mothers with Children, and is proud to say 95% of
their Mothers have been placed in permanent Housing.
In 1996, Dr. Green received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in
Religious Humanities, from St. Stevens Bible College.
Dr. Green serves as a Mentor to other Family Child Care
Providers, including Students of Early Childhood Education.
She serves as a Consultant to her Local Churches, and is an
ardent and active Supporter of the African American Unity
Center, which is Sponsored by the Brotherhood Crusade.
In her role as Family Advocate, Dr. Green has been a Member
of, collaborated with, the National Black Child Development
Institute (NBCDI), Community Voices (CV) and when needed,
Mothers In Action (MIA). She is also currently serveing as the
2nd Vice President of Community Childcare Collaborative (CCC).
Dr. Green’s awards include Outstanding Young Women of America
and Who’s Who in America, Special Certificates of Recognition
for service from Members of Congress, Senators, City
Councilmembers, LA City Board of Education and other churches
and community leaders.
Dr. Green enjoys Music, Dancing, Writing, International Sea
Cruises, and keeping her finger on the pulse of the Political
Theater by attending events such as the Congressional Black
Caucus in Washington, DC.
Dr. Green’s latest achievement is the authoring and completion
of her first novel, "Dear Dr. Price, A Letter to My Pastor",
written as a Testimonial of her walking by Faith, and and
using it to overcome adversities!
Dr. Green has 1 son, 2 daughters, 5 Godchildren and a host of
Spiritual Sons and Daughters.
